Pay council tax
Council tax is normally payable in ten monthly instalments starting in April each year - the monthly instalment amounts are shown on your bill. There are a number of different ways to pay your council tax.
If you are experiencing difficulty in paying, it is important that you contact the council tax team quickly so we can help you.
Pay by Direct Debit
To set up a Direct Debit or to edit your payment details:

If you set up a Direct Debit to pay your council tax, you won't have to renew it or contact us every April. It will run on automatically.

Pay online
Paying online is easy and secure. We accept all major credit and debit cards

Pay with a debit or credit card by telephoning 0300 456 2774 at any time to use our automated service.
You will need your council tax account number to use this service which can be found in the top right hand corner of your bill.
Pay using online banking
If you wish to pay via online banking, you will need the following information about the council's bank account:

Please ensure your seven-digit account reference is quoted as a reference with your payments.
Pay at the bank
Making payment at a branch of your own bank, or at any Lloyds TSB Bank, is free. Please note that if you pay at a bank, it may take several days for the payment to reach us.

If you do not pay your council tax
If you do not pay we are required by law to follow statutory council tax enforcement procedures to recover the debt.
If you are having trouble paying, contact us and we may be able to come to a payment arrangement that you can afford.
