Parish council tax charges

If your property is in one of the five parish areas you will pay an additional amount of council tax which goes to the parish council. The amount will be shown on your bill.

Each of the parish councils set a precept, which tells the borough council how much money it wants to receive from council tax for the forthcoming financial year.

The council then divides this precept by the tax base for the relevant parish which gives the parish council amount for a band D property. The tax base is the total number of properties in the area at a set point in time after all discounts and exemptions have been applied and all bands are converted to a band D.
