Cooling towers and evaporative condensers

Cooling towers and evaporative condensers help to remove excess heat from buildings.

Commercial sites using a cooling tower or evaporative condenser must legally notify their council in writing. They must do this:

  • Before a cooling tower or evaporation condenser is commissioned
  • If changes to the notification information occurs (within one month of the change). Changes include; the name, address and telephone number of a person with management responsibility for the unit; the control of the premises of concern; the number of the devices present; or changes to their location.
  • If the device 'ceases to be' (as soon as possible).

Notify us of cooling towers or evaporation condensers

To notify us of cooling towers or evaporation condensers, please download and return the form below. (Interpretation notes are included in this form and there is further guidance on completion of the form).

There is no need to inform us of a suspended operation for the purpose of maintenance or seasonal shutdown.

The legal requirements relating to cooling towers and evaporative condensers help reduce the risk of Legionnaires' disease in the borough.
