Food waste caddy

How to recycle food waste

  • Food waste is collected every week
  • You can recycle any cooked or raw food scraps
  • Make sure you remove all packaging from your food waste, especially plastic

You don't need to line your caddy, but if you do you can use plastic bags, compostable liners, newspaper or kitchen roll.

What goes in your food waste caddy

Put the following in your food waste caddy:

  • All food, cooked and raw
  • Tea bags and coffee grounds
  • Out of date or mouldy food
  • Raw and cooked meat, including bones
  • Dairy products such as cheese
  • Eggs and egg shell
  • Baked goods such as bread, cakes and pastries
  • Fruit and vegetables including raw and cooked vegetables and peelings
  • Rice, pasta, beans

What not to put in your food waste bin

Do not put any of these items in your food waste bin:

  • non-food products including nappies
  • packaging of any kind
  • any household recycling
  • liquids such as milk - these may leak causing spillages when transporting the food waste
  • dog waste, cat litter or dead animals
Ask the Waste Wizard where to repair, recycle, donate or dispose of your items

Keeping your caddies clean

Both caddies are dishwasher safe up to 60 degrees celsius. Caddies can be lined with cornstarch compostable liners, newspaper or any type of plastic bag.

If you have any questions about the service, check out our what happens to food waste page or have a look at our food waste FAQs.
